To the question, “Why Sabbath” I respond by asking, “Why not Sabbath?”
If a Soul “person” does not Honor the Sabbath as the Lord hath Instructed, that Soul “person” is in essence Stealing from God.”
I would like to start this Study with two Scriptures in the Book or Romans.
In Romans 10:17 the Apostle Paul wrote, "So then Faith Cometh by Hearing, and Hearing by the Word of God."
The Written Word of the Lord, the Bible (from Genesis 1:1 all the way through Revelation 22:21) is that wherein we find that which is necessary for Faith to be acquired.
The Apostle Paul in Romans 14:23 the last part of the Verse wrote, "Whatsoever is not of Faith is sin."
From these two Scripture in Romans we can conclude that ever Word from the Lord is Necessary to sustain our Faith and Salvation. To Violate (not Observe to Do) that which is Written in Word of the Lord, the Bible is sin and sin un-repented results in Everlasting Damnation.
In Ezekiel 20:11-12 we read, "And I gave them My Statutes, and showed them My Judgments, which if a man Do, he shall even Live in Them (Perform the Doing of the Word). **Moreover also I gave them My Sabbaths, to be a Sign between Me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that Sanctify them."
We read in St. Mark 2: 27-28, "And He “Jesus” said unto them, The Sabbath was Made for man, and not man for the Sabbath: **Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath."
In St. Luke 6:5 we read, "And He said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath."
We read in Genesis 2:2-3, "And on the Seventh Day God Ended His Work which He had Made; and He Rested on the Seventh Day from all His Work which He had Made. **And God Blessed the Seventh Day, and Sanctified it: because that in it He had Rested from all His Work which God Created and Made."
In Exodus 20:8-11 We read, "Remember the Sabbath Day, to Keep It Holy. *Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: **But the Seventh Day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it Thou Shalt Not Do Any Work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: ***For in six days the LORD Made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and Rested the Seventh Day: wherefore the LORD Blessed the Sabbath Day, and Hallowed It."
Nehemiah 13:15-21, "In those days saw I in Judah some treading wine presses on the Sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and lading asses; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all manner of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath Day: and I Testified against them in the day wherein they sold victuals. *There dwelt men of Tyre also therein, which brought fish, and all manner of ware, and sold on the Sabbath unto the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem. **Then I Contended with the Nobles of Judah, and said unto them, What Evil Thing is this that ye do, and Profane the Sabbath Day? ***Did not your fathers thus, and did not our God bring all this evil upon us, and upon this city? yet ye bring more wrath upon Israel by Profaning the Sabbath. **And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the Sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the Sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the Sabbath Day. *So the merchants and sellers of all kind of ware lodged without Jerusalem once or twice. ***Then I Testified against them, and said unto them, Why lodge ye about the wall? if ye do so again, I will lay hands on you. From that time forth came they no more on the Sabbath."
The Prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 58:1 & 13-14 wrote, "Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and show my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins. **If thou turn away thy foot from the Sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on My Holy Day; and Call the Sabbath a Delight, the Holy of the LORD, Honourable; and shalt Honour Him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: *Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will cause thee to ride upon the high places of the earth, and feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it."
We read in Revelation 12:17, "And the dragon (satan) was wroth with the woman (the Saints; the Bride of Christ) and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which Keep (Observe to Do) the Commandments of God, and have the Testimony (Faith in Jesus) of Jesus Christ."
In the 44th chapter of Ezekiel the Lord is Giving Instructions to Ezekiel for the Priest (the Saints);
One thing we need to note here is that in Revelation 5:10 It Is Written; "And (Jesus hath) hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall Reign on the earth. Therefore, the Saints are (Intern) Kings and Priest in the Service of the Lord."
In Ezekiel 44:20-24 we read, "Neither shall they shave their heads, nor suffer their locks to grow long; they shall only poll their heads. *Neither shall any priest drink wine, when they enter into the inner court. *Neither shall they take for their wives a widow, nor her that is put away: but they shall take maidens of the seed of the House of Israel, or a widow that had a priest before. **And they shall Teach My people the difference between the Holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the Clean. ***And in controversy they shall stand in judgment; and they shall judge it according to My Judgments: and they shall keep (Observe to Do) My Laws and My Statutes in all Mine Assemblies; and they shall Hallow My Sabbaths."
We read in Revelation 7:2-3, "And I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the Seal of the living God: and he cried with a loud voice to the four angels, to whom it was given to hurt the earth and the sea, *Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have Sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads."
In Ezekiel 9:4 we read, "And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a Mark Upon the Foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof."
These individuals mentioned in Ezekiel 9:4 Hate Evil which King Solomon says is the Fear of the Lord (Proverbs 8:13).
The Prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 30: 1 & 8-11 & 15 & 21 & 26 wrote, "Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take Counsel, but not of Me; and that Cover with a Covering, but not of My Spirit, that they may add sin to sin:"
Let’s note here that King David in Psalms 1:1-2 wrote, "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. *But his delight is in the Law of the LORD; and in His Law doth he Meditate day and night."
Continuing on in Isaiah 30, "Now go, write it before them in a table, and note it in a Book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever: *That this is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the Law of the LORD: *Which say to seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us Right Things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits: *Get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.
This portion of Scripture is fulfilled in several ways; one of which is the attempt of mankind to change the Sabbath of the Lord form the 7th Day of the week to the 1st day of the week.
They disregarded the Sabbath, which is a Memorial of the Creation of God and substituted it with the 1st day of the week, the Vernal Day of the Sun.
"For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and Rest shall ye be Saved; in Quietness and in Confidence shall be your strength: and ye would not. **And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. ***Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that the LORD bindeth up the breach of His people, and Healeth the stroke of their wound."
All that has been mentioned in this Scripture has not happened yet but we can be sure that one day it will come to pass. This knowledge lets us know that this Scripture is even for us today.
We read in Deuteronomy 5:29 & 33, "O that there were such an heart in them (the Saints), that they would Fear Me (Hate Evil), and Keep (Observe to Do) all My Commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever! **Ye shall Walk in all the Ways which the LORD your God hath Commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess."
In Job 23:11-12 we read, "My foot hath held His Steps, His Way have I kept, and not declined. **Neither have I gone back from the Commandment of His Lips; I have esteemed the Words of His Mouth more than my necessary food."
Have we got to this point yet?
The Lord said of Job that he was a Perfect man; one that Hated Evil and Observed to Do His Perfect Will (Job 1:8).
The Apostle Peter in 1st Peter 2:21 wrote, "For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an Example, that ye should Follow His Steps:"
Jesus is the ONLY ONE that the Saints are to Follow and Fashion their lives after ~
We read in Deuteronomy 6:6-8, "And these Words, which I Command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: *And thou shalt Teach Them Diligently unto thy children, and shalt Talk of Them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. **And thou shalt Bind Them For a Sign Upon Thine Hand, and They Shall Be As Frontlets Between Thine Eyes."
This that is mentioned in this Scripture is part of what is called the Seal of the Lord.
In Deuteronomy 11:18-19 we read, "Therefore shall ye lay up these My Words in your heart and in your Soul, and Bind Them for a Sign Upon Your Hand, that They may be as Frontlets Between Your Eyes. *And ye shall Teach Them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up."
The Seal upon our forehead in essence is what we Think and Speak and the Seal upon our hand is what we Do.
In closing, we read in Hebrews 4:8-10, "For if Jesus had given them rest, then would He not afterward have spoken of another day. **There remaineth therefore a Rest to the people of God. ***For he that is entered into His Rest, he also hath Ceased From his own works, as God did from His."
